The Perfect Week in Santorini
Caldera views, blue-domed churches, and sunset dinners in Oia — our guide to seven unhurried days on the most iconic island in the Aegean.
Santorini is one of those rare places that exceeds every expectation. Perched on the rim of an ancient volcanic caldera, the island offers an otherworldly landscape of whitewashed villages, dramatic cliffs, and an Aegean that shifts from turquoise to deep indigo depending on the hour.
We recommend basing yourself in Oia for at least part of your stay. The northern tip of the island is quieter than Fira, and the quality of light at both sunrise and sunset is extraordinary. Book a cave suite carved directly into the caldera wall — waking up to that view is something you'll carry with you for years.
Don't miss the village of Pyrgos, the island's highest point and one of its best-kept secrets. Away from the cruise ship crowds, its medieval streets and rooftop tavernas offer a more authentic Cycladic experience. Pair a morning walk here with lunch at one of the local wine estates — Santorini's Assyrtiko is among the finest white wines in Greece.
For beaches, skip the overrated Red Beach and head instead to Vlychada on the southern coast. The moonscape cliffs and powder-white sand feel almost surreal, and the beach club there keeps things stylishly relaxed. End your days at Ammoudi Bay, where freshly grilled octopus and cold Mythos are served directly over the water.
Fifi + Hop can arrange private sailing excursions around the caldera, helicopter transfers from Athens, and access to the island's most coveted dining tables. A week in Santorini, done properly, is one of the great travel experiences in the world.
